From Lyon Saint-Exupéry the drive follows the A43 motorway east past Chambéry to Albertville, then the N90 expressway up the Tarentaise valley to Bourg-Saint-Maurice, before the final mountain road to Tignes. In normal traffic the drive takes about 2 h 50 for roughly 185 km.
On winter Saturdays, when most chalets and apartments change guests, the roads around Lyon and towards the resorts can be busy, and snowfall slows traffic in the mountains. Your driver plans for this and keeps you informed. For your return flight we usually recommend leaving Tignes about 4 h 30 before departure on weekdays and about 5 h on winter Saturdays.

Train. There is no direct train from Lyon Airport to Tignes: you would travel with at least one change to Bourg-Saint-Maurice and continue by bus or taxi, which takes much longer than the road.

Tignes shares one of the largest high-altitude ski areas in the Alps with Val d'Isère and adds the Grande Motte glacier, which gives a very long season. Snow is usually reliable from November until early May.
